Do you know when the stethoscope was invented? 1816. That’s a very, very long time ago!
Yet, to these days, doctors and nurses still rely heavily on their stethoscopes… particularly in Emergency Rooms, which are one of the most hectic and high-stakes environments out there.
Why? Why do they continue to use such a basic tool when they have plenty of high-tech, fancy machines all around? Why?!
Because the tool has three nimble characteristics:
First: readily available – doctors and nurses can run from patient to patient; the stethoscope is always around their neck, ready for use.
Second: simple yet effective – they can quickly take the vital signs; it’s not rocket science; and it works.
Third, catalyst to action – if the patient’s vital signs are fine, they can run to the next patient; if not, they do what needs to be done.
In today’s BANI world, change-makers need stethoscope-like tools: always in the back of their mind and therefore readily available; simple yet effective; and catalyst to action.
At ORCHANGO, this is the only type of tools you’ll find in our toolbox. We use them throughout consulting engagements; we teach participants how to use them during learning programs and keynotes.
By the way – one of these tools is called… the Change Stethoscope™.
My advice to today’s change-maker: take a very close look at your toolbox. Keep all the tools that are already stethoscope-like; as for the other ones, either throw them out; or keep them on a shelf – as memorabilia…
Stay tuned for the next episode of the #NimbleVlog…
