For about 10 years, I’ve been saying to corporate leaders: it’s time to switch from Classic Change Management to what I call Nimble Change Leadership™.
Why? Because change has changed!
Initially, my message was getting limited traction – except, of course, with our clients… Then came COVID-19, which marked a tipping point. And it’s been accelerating ever since.
These days, leaders are the ones saying: “We struggle with the pace of change” and “We need change agility”. Employees are also fed up with change, as Gartner recently reported in the Harvard Business Review.
So, why did my message finally resonate with corporate leaders in the mainstream?
A recent discussion with a client CEO pointed me to the answer…
We were talking about the evolution of our world since the start of the 21st century.
At the beginning, we were in a VUCA environment: Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, and Ambiguous. Yet, it was still kind of possible to “manage change”.…
Then in 2018, futurist Jamais Cascio saw a new world emerging, which he called BANI: Brittle, Anxious, Nonlinear, and Incomprehensible.
And then came COVID-19 as if to prove his point. And today, we are living in economic and geopolitical chaos. So clearly, we are deep into BANI!
Most leaders are now getting my point: classic change management doesn’t work anymore; BANI call for change agility and nimble change leadership.
So, thank you BANI – and Jamais Cascio of course: you’ve amplified my voice!
Stay tuned for the next episode of the #NimbleVlog…
